The remains of the can show clear signs of over-pressurization. Both the upper and lower crimps have been undone, and the chine of the top (the groove where the cap snaps on) has been pushed out. Because both crimps are undone, it appears the can was holding the overpressure until the domed bottom "snapped through" (suddenly popped outward) which finished undoing the bottom crimp and turned the can into a rocket.
Aerosol cans are designed to "leak before failure" when overpressurized. That is, the crimps are supposed to uncurl gradually so that a leak is created, relieving the pressure. This suggests that the over-pressurization was sudden.
